Aubrey Vollie Cates Jr. Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Aubrey Vollie Cates Jr. (Odessa, Texas), born in Lubbock, Texas, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 21, 2025 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Aubrey Vollie Cates, Sr. and Edith Biggerstaff Cates; and his siblings, Anne Wiley and Raymond Cates. He is survived by: his wife Sherry Cates; his sons, Carl Cates (Kristy) of Odessa, Texas, Marc Cates (Laura) of Scurry, Texas and Eric Cates of Odessa, Texas; his sister Sherry Cates-Cantu of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandchildren, Bethany, Caleb, Aubrey, Kitra and Nathaniel. He is also survived by five great-granchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Sherwood Church of Christ (4900 N Dixie Blvd, Odessa, TX 79762).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made by donating to Odessa Christian School, or to the Cates Family Scholarship through The Community Foundation of West Texas in Lubbock, Texas.
