He was predeceased by: his mother Lucille Carter; his brother Billy Carter; and his sister-in-law Jane Carter. He is survived by: his former wife Rebecca Jane Coney; his wife Melissa Carter of Oenaville; his children, Michael Carter (Kathleen) of Midland, Matthew Carter (Jeannie) of North Carolina, Joshua Burtchell (Kacy) of Troy, Jared Burtchell (Paige) of Waxahachie, Mary Pajestka (Kenneth) of Rogers, Melysha Carter Hearn of Arizona, Melanie Brown (Wesley) of Midland and Sarah Mitchell (Derik) of Salado; his brothers, Chick Carter (Sherry) of Abilene and Neal Carter (Ruth) of Alabama; his sister-in-law Loretta Carter of Brownwood; his aunt Emma Lee Gilmore; his parents-in-law, Roy and Dianna Cosper; and his brother-in-law Olen Cosper (Michelle). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
