He was predeceased by : his parents, J. H. Gillespie and DeAlva Thomas Gillespie; and his brother-in-law Joe Lindsey. He is survived by : his daughter Jodi (Trey Rusk) of Kenna; his wife Kylene Gillespie of Quanah; his brother James (Kathy Gillespie) of Matador; his sister-in-law Vicky (Sammy Don Nicholas) of Quanah; his nieces and nephews, Jaime (Denis Mathews) of Quanah, Jenny Barker of Quanah, Brenda, Logan Hill of Lubbock, Mabry Barker of Quanah, Robert (Dawna Gillespie), Mark (Michael Thomas), Kyle Duncan (Kason Mathews), Henry Barker of Quanah and Calder Gillespie (Jack Hill); and his cousins, John and Debra Thomas of Crowell.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church in his name.
