He was predeceased by : his parents, Pedro Zayas and Savera Arizmendi Zayas; and his brother Saul A. Zayas. He is survived by : his close friend Melba Chapa; his children, Dr. Joe D. Zayas (Kathy), Delpha Z. Randazzo (Terry), Sandra R. Tarbet (Brian), Richard E. Zayas (Sandra) and Joey R. Zayas (Marcy); and his sister Zifa Z. Esparza. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
