He was predeceased by : his father Jose Baldemier Contreras. He is survived by : his mother Josephine Thompson; his children, Joseph Brian Contreras and Rebeca Ann Defenbaugh; his children-in-law, Mary Contreras and Wayne Defenbaugh; his siblings, Dale Love George Contreras, Gerald Contreras, Gus Contreras, Lorraine Miller, Greta Castillo, Genalle Contreras, Gina Tyler, Glenda Adams and Dena Turner; his grandchildren, Ashley Olivarez, Audrey Contreras, Reagan Defenbaugh and Riley Defenbaugh; and his great grandchildren, Kaylee G. Olivarez, Noah B. Olivarez and Madison R. Gallegos.
