He was predeceased by : his parents, Martin Goertz and Irene Goertz; and his siblings, Lucille Mikus and Charles Goertz. He is survived by : his wife Gloria Wright Goertz; his stepsons, Michael Benson (Kristen) and Kevin Benson (Michelle); his stepgrandchildren, Cameron Benson and Julia Gutierrez; his stepgreat-grandsons, Hendrix Martin, Seger, Crue and Ronan Benson; and his siblings, Paul (Sandra), John (Carol), Victor (Jan), Mary Stewart (Jerry), Madeleine Matocha (Kenneth), Margaret Mikulin (John David) and Kathleen Rasmussen (Allen). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to UTSW Simmons Cancer Center.
