He was predeceased by : his parents, Otha Hopkins and Mary Evelyn Hopkins; his brother-in-law James Hall; his niece Linda Sue Hall; and his nephew William Combel.

He is survived by : his wife Betty Lue Royals; his children, Richard Wayne Hopkins and Patricia Lynn Guthrie (William); his granddaughter Ashley Nicole Guthrie; his sisters, Harriet Hall, Marilyn McLemore (Glenn) and Mary Combel; his nieces, Lea and Cortnee; and his nephew James.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Parkinson's Research Foundation or American Diabetes Association.
