He was predeceased by : his parents, William Hardie Dodson and Lila Jarman Best Dodson; his foster parents, Curtis Slate and Mabel Dodson Slate; and his foster sister Nancy Slate Stone.

He is survived by : his wife Barbara Naylor Dodson; his children, William Hardy Dodson III (Barbie), Travis William Dodson (Gina), Daniel Samuel Dodson (Meredith) and Amanda Dodson Fox (Michael); and his grandchildren, William Hardy Dodson IV (Abby), Jonathan Dodson, Racheal Dodson Saienni (Cody), Tanis Dodson (Fern), Taryn Dodson (Jesse Burks), Elias Dodson, Ean Dodson and Asher Fox.
