He was predeceased by : his parents, Jose Mendez and Julia Mendez; his brothers, Pole Mendez, Joe Mendez, Angel Mendez and Andres Mendez; and his granddaughter Destiny Uvalle.

He is survived by : his children, Jesus David Mendez (Frances), Andres Mendez, Ruben Mendez and Sandy Mendez (Billy Wilson); and his sister Julia Mendez. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends.
