He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Annie Schwertner (Woehl) and Walter Schwertner; his wife Rosa Schwertner; his siblings, Alfred F., Ben R., Armin Schwertner, Elsie A. Wilde, Rosalie Sturm, Lucy M Cmerek and Marie A. Schwertner; his son-in-law Joe Hodge, Jr.; and his great great grandchild Carter Joe Alberthal.
He is survived by: his children, Andy Schwertner (Dolores), Janet Hodge and Rita Moeller (David). He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
