She was predeceased by: her parents, Gilberto Canales and Isabel Canales; and her brother Gilbert Canales. She is survived by: her husband Joe Alvarez; her sons, Miguel Alvarez (Nazanin), Marcos Alvarez and Martin Alvarez (Celeste Parra); her brother Arturo Canales (Oralia); and her grandchildren, Esteban, Cristian, Julian, Amélie, Madeleine and Mina Inés. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends.
