He was predeceased by : his wife Dora Hernandez; his children, Joanne Martinez, Gerald Hernandez and Edward Polendo; and his siblings, Evelyn Flora, Antonia Brooks, Rachel Hernandez, Manuel Hernandez, Eliseo Hernandez and Richard Hernandez.

He is survived by : his daughters, Geraldine Carrick and Daja Hernandez; his siblings, Herminia Hughes and Victor Hernandez; his grandchildren, Jessica Hernandez, Mark Martinez, Erica Hernandez and Greg Martinez; and his great grandchildren, Emilie Trujillo, Adalee Tejeda, Presley Gonzalez and River Gonzalez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; aunts and uncles; other family members and friends.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 1st 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brookehill Funeral Home (711 SE Military Dr, San Antonio, TX 78214). A rosary was held on Wednesday, May 1st 2024 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery (1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209).
