He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard O. Hughes and Florence Hughes (Sell); his wife Dorothy Hughes (McManus); and his siblings, Rupert, Calvin, George, Dean, Lloyd and Ardythe Williams.

He is survived by: his sons, Robert Hughes (Ashley) of San Antonio and Richard Hughes (Wenli Li) of Pasadena; and his grandchildren, Justin of Huntington, Jennifer of Titusville and Lincoln of San Antonio, Texas..
