He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Eckhardt and Maude Eckhardt Sr. of San Antonio; and his siblings, Theresa Ann, Fred and L. Darleen.
He is survived by: his children, Scott, Matt and Duanne (Dee); his stepchildren, Jana and Jim; and his daughter Betty. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Through the years he lovingly built several tricycle airplanes that were donated to Boysville, Inc. San Antonio for auction.
