He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugo Wenzel and Otilia Fey; his wife Catherine McMonagle Wenzel; and his brothers, Hugo "Sonny" Wenzel, Jr. and Elroy Wenzel.

He is survived by: his children, Dennis Wenzel (Sandra), Derek Wenzel, Dale Wenzel, Roxanne Wenzel and Durwood "Woody" Wenzel; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Wenzel, Ethan Wenzel and Savannah Espinoza. He is also survived by many other relatives and numerous friends.
