It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jose Cruz Cortez of San Juan, Texas, who passed away on May 12, 2026, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his former wife Elisa P. Cortez; his parents, Jose Cortez Torres and Maria Luz Villa of Lira; and his brother Jesus Cortez. He is survived by: his wife Carmen C. Cortez; his children, Xavier Cortez (Christy) and Julissa C. Muñoz (Jorge); his stepson Howard West (Debi); his grandchildren, Matthew Cortez, Patrick Cortez, James Cortez, Anthony Muñoz and Rebeka Muñoz; his great grandchildren, Adeline and Delilah Cortez; and his sisters, Manuela Galvan (Guadalupe) and Elena Cortez (Daniel) of Vasquez.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home - San Juan (311 E Expressway 83, San Juan, TX 78589). A rosary will be held on Thursday, May 14th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Resurrection Catholic Church (312 N 9th St, Alamo, TX 78516). A burial will be held on Monday, May 18th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Palm Valley Memorial Gardens (4607 N Sugar Rd, Pharr, TX 78577).
