He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Shoemake and Myrtle Shoemake (Nelson); and his sisters, Karen Sue Anderson and Mary Ann Kennon. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn; his daughters, Amy Wilson (Fred) and Russell Shoemake Kayla (Kristin); his grandchildren, Noah Shoemake (Samantha), Sydney Shoemake (Ethan), John Hamilton, Emma Hamilton, Liam Hamilton, Rory Hamilton and Nora Hamilton; and his sister Janice Lackey. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many friends.
