He was predeceased by : his parents, Alonzo Hays and Ollie Effie Hays (Sells); his wife Alene Hays (King); the mother of his children Rillie Hays (Threet); and his siblings, Fount Hays, Edith Abston (Lacy), Norma Ford (Lacy), Gilbert Lacy, Elbert Lacy and Elvie Lacy.

He is survived by : his children, David Hayes (Emily), Jerry Hays (Susie), Tommy Hays (Cindy), Shirley Bowden (Mike) and Allan Hays (Carey). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
