He was predeceased by : his parents, Francisco Melendez and Cleofas Melendez; his wife Teresa R. Melendez; and his siblings, Bernadino Melendez, Natividad Melendez, Petra Hernandez and Anastacia Rios.

He is survived by : his children, Mike Melendez (Irene), Steven Melendez, Angie Skyles (Marty), Alifonsa Perez, Alice Tenorio and Dolores Castillo; and his sisters, Tomasa Ramirez and Julia Hernandez. He is also survived by grandchildren: 18; great grandchildren: 24; and with other family members and friends.
