He was predeceased by: his son Dennis Gene Smith; his parents, Bob Smith and Ruby Smith; and his siblings, Robert T., Buddy, Louis, David Ray and Bernice Clay.
He is survived by: his children, Dan Smith (Yvette) of Windthorst, David Smith (Lisa) of Windthorst, Dale Smith of Jacksboro, Debbie Sissom (Corby) of Holliday and Lisa Williams (Justin) of Loving; and his grandchildren, Ashley Helms, Allyson Smith, Amanda Smith, Westen Smith, Lindsay Helms, Kelcy Jackson, Peyton Sissom, Meagan Sissom, Sierra Sissom, Kathryn Steel, Christopher Hoadley, Adrian Smith, Mia Smith and Braden Williams. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
