He was predeceased by: his parents, Byron Charles and Wayla Johnson Nelson; his brother Nash Nelson (Rosemary Nelson); his son Scott Nelson; his son-in-law Ron Hoogveldt; and his grandson Christopher Zoellner.
He is survived by: his parent-in-law Lynnette Slaughter; his wife Rosemary Hekker; his sister Jesselyn (Jim); and his children, Carrie, Mark (Cheri), Craig, Stacey, Jessie (Jeremy) and Sarah (Eric). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
