He was predeceased by: his daughter Betsy Sustad; his former wife Deanna Hammond; and his stepson Michael Ferraro. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Hammond; his sisters, Jan Quam (Gerald) and Frances Woodbury (Woody); his son James Hammond (Sara); his mother Nancy Link; his son-in-law Phil Sustad (Betsy); his daughters, Michelle Ferraro and Deanna Wall (Corey); and his grandchildren, Jesse Eadie, Steph Eadie, Miles Sustad, Peter Sustad, Carver Hammond, Taliana Hammond, Kaiya Hammond, Nick Runyon (Ashley), Luke Runyon, Jake Runyan, Michael Ferraro (Booney) and Vanessa Reel (Dalton). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

“I’m surprised and saddened by Jim’s passing. Every time I saw him he was so upbeat and friendly, putting up with all of Joyce’s friends! Last summer he and Joyce even spent a hot day helping me pack boxes of books and dishes and then moved them for me in his truck. I’ll miss visits with you, Jim. – Ms. Teddie Krause”
