He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade H. Hartman and Flossie Chewning Hartman; his brothers, Cary Hartman Staggs and Thomas Hartman; his former wife Agnes Harlow Hartman; and his son James David Hartman.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Powell Dangerfield Hartman; his daughters, Carolyn Thurman (Roger) of Goodview and Becky McDaniel of Roanoke; his sister Nancy Byrd of Moneta; and his stepchildren, Gail Jennings (Jay) of Lynchburg and Bill Dangerfield (Belinda) of Winston-Salem, NC.. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family invites friends to make contributions to Good Samaritan Hospice or the charity of their choice.
