Gregory Dean Redman Obituary

Gregory Dean Redman, 46, of 1701 Springhill Road, Staunton, Va., died Saturday, December 26, 1998, at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va.

Born on November 18, 1952, in Petersburg, W.Va., he was a son of Elizabeth B. (Taylor) Redman, of Keyser, W.Va., and the late Charles B. Redman Sr. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Anna Redman, and his maternal grandparents, George and Elizabeth Taylor.

Mr. Redman was employed as a highway construction worker with the Branch Group of Roanoke. He was a 1972 graduate of Keyser High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a military policeman in Thailand. Mr. Redman was a Methodist by faith. During his high school career, Greg excelled as a long distance runner and was on the State Championship winning team and was an inductee into the Keyser High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was awarded numerous commendations and awards for expert marksmanship in both riflery and pistol shooting. He was a member of the Washington-Smith Post #152, American Legion, Keyser, and Aubrey-Stewart Post #5957, V.F.W., Piedmont, W.Va.

Surviving in addition to his mother are one daughter, Rebecca L. Michael, of Keyser; his fiancé, Brenda Sutherland; five brothers, Charles B. Redman Jr., Robert D. Redman and Jeffery R. Redman, all of Keyser; Michael D. Redman, of Pflugerville, Texas, and Roscoe "Leon" Redman, of Moorefield; eight sisters, Louise E. Redman-Gilmore and Diana J. Twyman, both of Piedmont; Linda L. Harvey, of Princeton; Saundra K. Allen, of Baltimore, Md.; Robin L. Redman, of Wilmington, Del., Roberta Redman, Alta C. Brooks and Vanessa G. Allen, all of Keyser, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Henderson Wheeler, the Rev. Lester Clifford and the Rev. Darnell Allen officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
