She was predeceased by: her parents, Millard Purcell and Marguerite Purcell; and her husband Gerald D. Whitzel. She is survived by: her daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) and Kathleen M. Foley (William); her sister Pamela Ann Purcell-Sonier (Pat); and her grandchildren, Rebecca, Carrie (Chance), Julia N. Gilliam (Nathan Jacobs), Rachel E. Tuter (James), Mellisa D. Wager (Nathan), Jacqulene Foley, Benjamin and Jared.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Fire Department, Station 3 (Rokeby Avenue) or Oaklette United Methodist Church.
