He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Showalter and Edith Showalter; and his brother Charlie Paul "C. P.". He is survived by: his aunt Sarah "Blackie" Payne; his wife Barbara Jean Wright Showalter; his children, Paul Howard Showalter of Williamsburg and Erin Elizabeth Showalter-Nicely (Hiawatha "Casey" Nicely) of Bonsack; his grandson Wyatt Hudson Nicely; and his close friends, Steve Jones of Potts Creek and Ronald "Ronnie" Wright of Eagle Rock.
