He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward McKinley Johnson and Lizzie Chambers Johnson; his wife Dorothy Mae Thomas "Dot" Johnson; and his siblings, Virginia Elizabeth Ray, Carl T. "Tenny" Johnson, Edward "Joc" Johnson and Robert Henry "Bob" Johnson, Sr..

He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth Hunter of Covington, Brenda Waldron of Radford, Karen Allen (Attell) of Richmond, Lynne Fay Johnson of Iron Gate, Harvey Johnson, Jr. of Roanoke, Kenny Johnson (Sharon) of Covington and Jerome Johnson, Sr. of Covington; his grandchildren, Shannon Johnson and Tiffany Johnson; and his close friends, Steve and Becky Vess. He is also survived by 27 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews.
