He was predeceased by: his wife Ruby Tinnell Houston; his parents, Frank Lee Houston and Mazie Fitzgerald Houston; his daughters-in-law, Lynn and Karen Houston; and his siblings, Elwood L. Houston, Frank W. Houston, Arlene H. Harman and Dora H. Wright.
He is survived by: his children, Melvin E. Houston, Jr., Gary W. Houston (Ella), Danny L. Houston, Jimmy D. Houston and Wanda H. Hawkins (Jerry); and his pet Heather. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and 23 great- grandchildren.
