He was predeceased by : his parents, Richard Lacy Compton, Sr. and Mae Elizabeth Milam Compton; and his siblings, R. Lacy Compton, Rebekah C. Lindsey and Wallace Milam Compton.

He is survived by : his wife Nancy Poteat Compton; and his sons, Jeffrey "JD" Desmond Compton and Richard Leon Compton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
