He was loved and cherished by many people including : his children, David Carter (Jennifer) of Yanceyville, NC and Jennifer Western (Ed) of Acworth, GA; his grandchildren, Jackson Carter, MacKenzie Western and Mason Western; his sister Jo Ann C. Hornsby of Lafayette, LA; his aunt Sarah Carter Watlington of Yanceyville, NC; and the mother of his children Martha Fowlkes Carter. He was also cherished by numerous extended family and friends.
