He was predeceased by : his parents, Barry Ben Hughes and Annie Richardson Hughes; his granddaughter Sophia Delgado; and his sisters, Mable Ragsdale and Jean Stanley.

He is survived by : his wife Frances Womack Hughes; his children, Eddie Richard Hughes, Jr. (Amy) of Florida, Cynthia Hughes Schoonover (Dale) of Maryland and Tracey Hughes Wallace of Florida; his grandchildren, Jaime Lohr (Brad), Whitney Hughes, David, Matthew Delgado, Kelsey Shae Wallace and Christen Kaye Wallace; and his siblings, Elizabeth Whitt of Richmond, Kate Fisher (Richard) of Brookneal, Ben Hughes (Linda) of South Boston and Jimmy Hughes (Sue) of South Boston.
