He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethel Warthen and James W. Witherspoon; and his brother Lt. James W. Witherspoon, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Bass Witherspoon; his children, James Whitted Witherspoon (Meg) and Elizabeth Witherspoon Hubbard (Tim); his brother Jere Warthen Witherspoon (Ellen); his grandchildren, Emily, Trent and Allison Hubbard; his stepgranddaughter Brandi Stacy; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan and Aubree Stacy. He is also survived by many close friends and extended family.
