He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Munson Akins and Aura Akins (Teddi); and his wife Wendy McDaniel Akins. He is survived by: his children, Shelby Lynne Akins, Austin Howard Akins and Devin Andrew Akins; his siblings, Toni Akins Campagnone (John), Bart Akins, Travis Akins (Paige) and Craig Akins (Heather); his siblings' children, Lynne Campagnone, Leigh Anne Campagnone, Erin Akins, Hannah Akins, Kyle Stuart and Tristan Akins; his cousins, Deborah Goodwin, Phyllis Steedley, Barbara Carlton, Sharon Sanders, Cindy Jones and David Akins; and his aunt Geneva.
An uplifting celebration of live will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Per Bret's wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions of backpacks and school supplies may be donated to Bret's family to be distributed to Matoaca Elementary School, when they can be accepted, per the school.
