He was predeceased by : his parents, Arthur Sanders and Sara Hooks Sanders; his daughter Lori Parker Lockridge; and his wife Gail Victoria Sanders. He is survived by : his brother John Sanders; his daughters, Kris Long, Elisabeth Christenson and Ananda Sanders; his nephew Jim Sanders; his grandchildren, Madelyn Frazier, Mia Christenson, Kyla Frazier and Zach Frazier; and his great grandchildren, Aliya Rose, Kenzlie Rose and Zaccai Brown.

Donations in his honor can be made to Fishburne Military School, Waynesboro, Virginia.
