He was predeceased by: his parents, Van Lawson and Cathryn Lawson; and his sister Varina Hemmingsen. He is survived by: his wife Karen D. Lawson; his son Alexander Lawson; his sisters, Cobina Adams and Rowina Kennedy; and his aunt Earlene Vetter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Lake Jackson Fire and Rescue Department.
