He is survived by: his wife Ruby Foley Carter; his sister Eunice Vaughn; his daughter-in-law Lynda Crowder Carter; his son George Dean Carter; his daughter-in-law Angie Barnhill Carter; his grandchildren, Helen Carter Shupe (Christopher), Annette Carter Mabry (Jed), Will Carter (Paige) and Aaron Carter; his stepgranddaughter Heather Crigger Glenn (William); his great grandchildren, Tabbetha Marie Shupe, Evelynn Grace Mabry, Nathaniel Jude Bruce Mabry, Easton Alexander Carter, Oakland Beau Carter and Azalea Anne Carter; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Nellie Kay Mize and JJ Mize.
