She was predeceased by : her parents, Loy Olin and Ottie Bell Ratcliff Whetzel; and her siblings, William, Arley Whetzel, Marie Dahmer, Arvella Finnigan and Ardella Clear.

She is survived by : her husband Joseph O'Neill Butler, Jr.; her sons, Tracy Butler (Hannah Shepherd) of Afton and Michael Butler (Rachel) of Harrisonburg; her siblings, Virgil Whetzel (Gayle) of Mt. Crawford and Luella Montgomery of Alexandria; and her grandchildren, Sagan Butler, Dylan Butler, Vale Butler and Zinnia Butler. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
