With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Leon Townes Sr. (Newport News, Virginia), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Leon left this world on May 26, 2025 at the age of 66, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Florine Townes and Freddie Hardy; his grandparents, Alice and Robert; his aunt Ola Gathers; his uncle Henry; and his siblings, Jimmy and Joyce Anne.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Uzzle (Virginia) of Windsor; his children, Shunte' (Rey), Leon Jr., Darius, Dorcas, Noel (Leon) and Zion; his grandchildren, Naa'rah and Rayelle; his siblings, Debbie, Charles and Johnnie (Joyce); and his cousins, Yvette and Ronnie. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and friends.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, June 1st 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the New Hope Baptist Church (1415 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, VA 23666-5326). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 1st 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, June 2nd 2025 at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens (3920 Airline Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23321).

I was new and it was so nice to have someone make me feel so quickly like I was part of the group. Leon shared his beautiful voice with the Aqua Family at one of our luncheon. It was an event I will never forget. He shared his faith in God & his love for all of his people with us. Leon will never be forgotten.”
