He was predeceased by: his father Bobby Felix; and his nephew Zachary Hollifield. He is survived by: his children, Matthew Gates (Amanda) of North Tazewell, Leahann Hughes of Asheboro, NC and Michael Hughes (Savannah) of Asheboro, NC; his grandchildren, Sheena Gates, Johnathan Gates, Shannon Gates, Abigil Gates, Jacob Gates, Peyton Gates, Nicholas Wilson, Ivy McDowell, Wyatt McDowell, Adalyn Hughes and Mason Hughes; his close friend Pam Hagy; and his siblings, James Hollifield (Janet) of Asheboro, NC and Cathy Zimmerman (Dan) of Jackson Springs, NC.
