It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Frances Norton Staples Lane of Portsmouth, Virginia, born in Salemburg, North Carolina, who passed away on March 29, 2024, at the age of 102, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, James Walter Norton, Sr. and Rochelle Butler Norton; her husbands, Griffin Leigh Staples, Jr. and Robert Lee Lane; her son James G. Staples; and her granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Staples.

She is survived by : her sons, Charles K. Staples (Margaret Ann) and William N. Staples (Claudia); her daughter-in-law Lynn Spencer Staples; and her grandchildren, Kim Staples, Whit Staples and Jason Staples. She is also survived by six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
