James Lawton Sr. Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Lawton Sr. (Portsmouth, Virginia), who passed away on June 4, 2025 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Annie Lawton and George Lawton; his son James Wood Jr.; and his siblings, George Jr. and Betty Ann.
He is survived by: his daughters, Ann Brown (Bernad), Angela Taylor (Monty) and LaKesha Riddick; his nephews, La'Vel and La'Ray Lawton; his siblings, Dorothy, Evelyn, Barbara Jean, Joyce Ann, Brenda, Sylvia, Deborah, Herbert Lee, Steve Lawton and Robert Lawton; and his siblings-in-law, Geraldine Blue, Allene Smith, Maggie Lawton, Vanessa Lawton, Barbara Lawton, Melvin Hike, Porter and Solomon. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Viewing was held on Wednesday, June 11th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Metropolitan Funeral Service (5605 Portsmouth Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23701). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, June 12th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
