With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Rufus Allen Strothers Sr. of Portsmouth, Virginia, who passed away on August 10, 2021 at the age of 80. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Beacher D. Strothers and Annie Rachel Whitfield Strothers; his wife Mary Strothers; his children, Valerie Strothers and Michael Strothers; and his siblings, Emilie Strothers Butler, William Simmons, Calvin Strothers, Sr. (Leon) and Jackie Strothers.
He is survived by: his sons, Rufus Allen Strothers, Jr., Rodney Strothers, Keith Cunningham and Thomas Jones; his siblings, Rutherford Whitfield (Ulysses), Cecile Cherry, Carolyn Johnson and Brenda Cofield; and his sisters-in-law, Marlene Simmons and Glorine Strothers. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
