He was predeceased by : his parents, Christopher Helbert and Maude Leona Gillan Puckett; his wife Virginia Liddy Puckett; his son Carl Ray Thompson; and his granddaughters, Kimberly Hale and Cecilia Thompson.

He is survived by : his son Cecil Thompson (Clara) of Raven, Virginia; and his sister Ailene Burdine of Cedar Bluff. He is also survived by Five Grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren, and Seven Great-Great Grandchildren.
