He was predeceased by : his parents, George Shelton of Washington and Mabel Exie Proffitt Shelton; and his close friend Ruth Blankenship. He is survived by : his daughters, Lora Osborne (David), Julie Sutherland (Lance), Denise Keen (Andy) and Rebecca Sargent (William); his grandchildren, Kaidence Rayne Sutherland and Preston Gilbert; and his brother Herman Shelton (Valerie).

As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Commonwealth of Virginia Mandate, the family will not be present at the funeral home.
