He was predeceased by: his parents, Isiah Smoot and Mary Louise Kennedy Smoot; and his siblings, Betty Ann Smoot, Elizabeth Henshaw, Charles Smoot and Eugene Smoot.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Emiline Henshaw Smoot; his son Thomas Michael Leake (Theresa) of Zion Crossroads; his sisters, Mary Lois Jasper (John) of Jeffersonton, Mildred Cooper (Sandy) of Culpeper and Janet Smoot of Culpeper; and his grandchildren, Jacob Michael Leake, Ryan Thomas Matney and Haylie Alexandra Spangler. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
