He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond E. Hankins and Elizabeth Wade Hankins; and his brother Raymond E. "Buddy" Hankins. He is survived by: his wife Jane Hall Hankins; his sons, Joseph B Hankins, II (Martha) of Eden and Chad C. Hankins (Connie) of Eden; his grandchildren, Heather of South Boston, Justin and Joseph of Eden; his close friend Lab; his friend Ebonee Price of Bayada Nursing; his aunt Jane; and his uncle Joe Ben.
They worked together on houses, buying and selling until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007.
