He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Dodson and Frances Dodson; his sister Jean Meyers (Sy); his daughter-in-law Lauri Dodson; and his nephew Robert Meyers.

He is survived by: his wife Polly D. Dodson; his sons, Donald Steven Dodson (Kathy) and Todd L. Dodson (Lisa); his granddaughters, Megan Dodson, Kaitlyn Dodson and Alyssa Dodson; and his stepgrandchildren, Abby Crawford, Ali Crawford, Kenneth Taylor, Brian Taylor, Shay Foley, Brooks Foley, Keshia Foley and Kendal Foley.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Donald's name to the North Roanoke Baptist Church Building Fund or to the St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
