We are sad to announce that on April 8, 2024, at the age of 94, Mattie W. Lemon of Rocky Mount, Virginia, born in Penhook, Virginia passed away. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Elijah Witcher and Exie Price Witcher; her husband Clarence Lemon; her children, Claudine Woody and Clifton Woody; and her siblings, Melvin, Alvester, Luther, Willie Witcher, Bessie Cobbs, Beatrice Witcher, Eleanor Muse, Addie Witcher and Yvonne Davis.

She is survived by : her children, Anthony Woody, Sr. (Victoria) of Martinsville, Jerome Woody (Bernice Wright) of Penhook, Rev. Vernon Woody (Laverne) of Bethlehem, Elder Claude Woody (Lucille) of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and Carrie V. Smallwood of Beltsville, Maryland; her daughter-in-law Betsy Woody of Penhook, Virginia; her godson Glemell Mcghee of Penhook, Virginia; and her siblings, Thelman Witcher of Roanoke, Buddy Witcher of Jacksonville, Bobby Witcher of Roanoke, Virginia, Mozelle Witcher of Penhook, Ola Holland of Rocky Mount, Sandra Preston of Boones Mill and Juanita James of Penhook, Virginia. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren.

Viewing was held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Greater Mt. Parrish Missionary Baptist Church (2553 Calvary Road, Penhook, VA 24139). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, April 13th 2024 at the Greater Mt. Parrish Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery (2553 Calvary Road, Penhook, VA 24137).
