He was predeceased by : his parents, Irving McPherson and Edith Paye McPherson; his former life partner Brigitte R. McPherson; his son Carl McPherson; his grandson Xavier Taj McPherson; his brothers, James "Jimmy" and Edward "Eddie" McPherson; and his son-in-law Bruce Myers.

He is survived by : his wife Ethel McPherson; his children, Melvin McPherson (Dorothy), Juanita McPherson and Carmen McPherson (Hilpert Kostka); his stepchildren, Stephen Hess (Pam) and Terri Isenhour (Craig); his grandchildren, Melvin Carter, Taj McPherson, Scott Myers, Patrick Hess, Paige Hess and Megan Isenhour; and his brother Dale McPherson. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
