He was predeceased by: his parents, Dump Carter and Beatrice Webster Carter; and his wife Sebenzile S. Carter. He is survived by: his children, Michael Hairston of Stuart and Lynn Hatcher of Mt. Airy, NC; his stepdaughter Pauline Hairston of Martinsville; his granddaughters, JaQuassia Hatcher, Kanisha Goolsby, Taja Manns and A'miyah Hairston; his stepgrandchildren, Kaleeya, Ja'Keese, Ti'Heem and A'meeriyah Hairston; his great grandchild Xavier Hatcher; and his brothers, Benny Carter of Stuart and James A. "Moochie" Carter of Stuart. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
